URBAN KITTENS RESCUE GROUP (UK) FOSTER CARER CONTRACT

Animal fostering and adoption

  • I understand that when I care for UK animals in my home, I am doing so strictly as a volunteer and in the spirit of volunteerism.

  • I agree that UK solely determines how many animals are given into my care and that the animal/s will be returned if or when requested by UK

  • I understand and agree that when signing as a new foster carer, prior to my first foster, my home will be inspected to ensure appropriate and adequate provision is available for animal/s coming into my care

  • If I for any reason am unable to directly care for the said animal, I understand that I cannot give the animal(s) away or sell to another person or authorize another person to care for the said animals

  • I agree that I will protect the privacy and confidentiality of any information that I become aware of as a foster carer for UK. I agree that I will not use or disclose information other than for the purpose for which the information was first collected

  • The foster carer is required to provide any relevant information that will assist UK to find a suitable home for the kitten/cat

  • The foster carer is to provide regular, quality photos of the kitten/cat for record keeping purposes, and to “promote” the kitten/cat in order for it to find a loving home. If the carer doesn't have a camera, or doesn't feel confident they can take good photos, permission for UK to visit and take the photos will need to be requested

  • If a foster carer plans to be away or unable to care for a cat/s in care for an extended period of time, UK must be given a minimum of 14 days notice in order to arrange alternative, suitable arrangements

  • UK will have sole responsibility for making placement decisions for the cats/kittens. If the foster carer suggests a potential adoptive person, the prospective adoptive person must submit a Pet Adoption Questionnaire Expression of Interest form to UK and go through the same process as anyone else

  • If the foster carer wishes to adopt the cat, they must first relinquish the cat to UK and then go through the same adoption process as everyone else

  • On occasion, people interested in adopting the cat will need to contact the foster carer, therefore the contact details of the foster carer will be required and the foster carer authorizes UK to share these details with the potential adopters

Animal Housing, transportation and feeding

  • I agree to provide clean, warm, dry, comfortable housing, bedding and adequate space to accommodate all foster animal(s) without crowding

  • I agree to disinfect the area/room and items (litter trays, toys, scratching post, bed), which foster kittens will use in between foster placements

  • I agree to house all felines inside or in an approved, safe, fully enclosed run at all times which prevents the cat from escaping or any other animal obtaining access to the feline/s and I will advise UK as soon as possible if the animal escapes

  • I will be responsible for the safe transportation for the collection and return of animals. If the carer needs to transport the cat they need to be transported safely and in an approved cat carrier that will not allow the cat to escape or injure themselves. The carrier must have the seatbelt strapped through the handle whilst in transit. No cat or kitten is to be held in the arms of a passenger

  • The only approved litter to be used for UK kittens under 8 weeks of age is Rufus and Coco - Wee Kitty Clumping Corn or Plant Based Litter OR Breeders Choice paper litter

Animal Veterinary care

  • The foster carer's existing cats all need to be desexed and have had their current F3 vaccinations. All other pets, irrespective of species must be up to date with parasite and flea control. Foster carers must follow “barrier nursing” guidelines – this involves isolating new kittens/cats from existing fosters or pets for a period of NO LESS THAN 2 weeks and that excellent hygiene and disinfection protocols are followed

  • All carers MUST utilize F10 Veterinary grade disinfectant to disinfect all surfaces, bedding, etc at all times

  • Cats can cause injury to us. Under stress they may bite or scratch. All foster carers must have a current tetanus vaccination and will seek medical attention if injured. Fostering for UK is done so at your own risk

  • UK has feeding and parasite control guidelines that foster carers agree to follow. These will be supplied at time of commencing a foster engagement

  • If the foster animal(s) become sick or injured while in my care, I acknowledge that it is my responsibility to contact UK and to then take the kitten/cat for diagnosis and treatment at an UK approved Vet. I will not take the animal to my own veterinarian unless in the case of emergency and with prior approval

  • UK will pay for any veterinary fees associated with animals ongoing health requirements including, desexing, micro-chipping and vaccinations, as well as treatment of any diseases or disorders that manifest whilst in foster care. UK will require that the foster carer pay veterinary fees that relate to the injury of fostered animals, that have occurred due to neglect or negligence

  • UK believes in, and supports, the G2Z euthanasia initiative; zero euthanasia of all healthy and treatable cats and kittens. Unfortunately, in some cases a cat/kitten is not able to be treated, and if it is suffering immensely, and upon advice by a Vet, the cat/kitten will need to be euthanized. This will be a last resort and will only be considered after all other avenues have been exhausted. It is not a decision that we will make lightly

Indemnity & Remuneration

  • I understand that UK, NSW is not responsible for any damage caused by the foster animal(s) in my home

  • When fostering cats for UK this is done solely as a volunteer. As such no employment relationship exists between foster carer and UK, and there can be no remuneration for these volunteer services

  • UK takes no responsibility if the foster carer's own personal pets contract any illness, disease or parasite infection from the fostered kitten/cat and subsequent medical expenses will be the responsibility of the foster carer

Equipment supplied by UK

  • All items provided to me by UK to care for the foster animal(s) will always remain the property of UK, NSW and must be returned if requested

By agreeing to this contract, I certify that the information I have given is true and correct, and I realize any misrepresentation of facts may result in my losing the privilege of fostering pets. I understand that UK has the right to deny my request to foster animals in any situation that would be contrary to the UK policies, the NSW Companion Animals Act, or any other legal requirement or when not in the best interest of the animal/s. I hereby indemnify Urban Kittens, NSW against any claim, liability, complaint or demand made in respect of any pets I may care for. I understand and acknowledge the terms and conditions of this foster care agreement and understand that the signatory acknowledges on behalf of myself that the agreement is understood and accepted.
